Společnost s názvem Death by Audio byla založena Oliverem Ackermannem v roce 2002. Toto jméno je původně názvem skladu v průmyslové budově ve Williamsburgu (v sousedství Brooklynu), ze kterého se stal otevřený prostor pro různé umělce. Oliver Ackermann zde začal pracovat v roce 2002, aby se později přestěhoval právě do Brooklynu a pokračoval zde s vývojem a ruční výrobou svých pedálů. Odhodlání a srdečnost, s jakými se Oliver a jeho tým věnují své práci, dokazují i jedinečné grafické úpravy efektů Death By Audio.
